Aren’t languages fun?
When I was waiting for a friend to show up for dinner at a Ruby Tuesday’s in Northern Virginia while on my trip to attend literacy events, I overheard two ladies talking while also waiting outside the restaurant.
The thickly accented older lady said to the younger, “She had a béret on her head.”
“She had a berry on her head?” queried the younger.
“Yes, she had a béret.”
Patiently the younger asked again, “So, she had a berry on her head?”
“No, no,” the older lady said again, motioning to the top of her head, ”She was wearing a béret.”
“Oh! Oh! she had a béret on her head!
